What an SEO audit should cost, and what you should get for it.
A $99 automated report and a deep engineering audit share a name and nothing else. Here is how scope drives price, so you can compare quotes without getting played.
SEO audit cost depends on scope: a surface checklist review is quick and inexpensive, while a full technical audit of rendering, indexing, schema, speed and site architecture takes days of expert time. Site size, platform complexity and whether fixes are included move the price most.
An SEO audit is mostly expert time. Software can crawl a site in minutes, but deciding which of a thousand warnings actually matter, tracing each one to its cause and writing a fix your developers can use takes hours or days. That is what the price pays for.
This page explains what drives technical SEO pricing, what a good audit deliverable contains, and the red flags that tell you an audit is not worth paying for at any price.
Three kinds of SEO audit
| Audit type | What it covers | Typical effort | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Automated report | A tool export: warnings, scores and charts | Minutes | A quick health check, never a plan |
| Checklist review | A person checks the common issues against a list | Hours | Small, simple sites on standard platforms |
| Full technical audit | Crawl, render, index, speed, schema and architecture, with causes and fixes | Days | Sites with traffic problems, JavaScript, migrations or many pages |
Ask any provider which of the three you are buying. The names get mixed up, and an automated report sold as a full audit is the most common way people overpay.
Where this connects
Pricing ongoing SEO campaigns, content, local and links included, is a different question. Eye To Ad Media publishes its full campaign pricing.
Five factors that set technical SEO pricing
Two audits with the same name can differ by a factor of ten in work. These are the reasons.
Site size
A ten-page brochure site and a ten-thousand-page store are different jobs. More templates and URL patterns mean more to test.
Platform and rendering
Static HTML is quick to analyze. JavaScript frameworks need rendered-versus-raw comparisons, which take longer.
Depth
A checklist review stops at symptoms. A full audit traces each problem to its cause in the code.
Fixes included
An audit that hands you a list costs less than one where the fixes are implemented and verified.
Urgency
A migration next week or a sudden traffic drop needs focused time fast, which changes scheduling and scope.
What a good audit deliverable includes
- A ranked fix list. Every issue sorted by impact and effort, so the first week of work is obvious.
- Causes, not just symptoms. "This template outputs a canonical to the wrong URL," not "duplicate content detected."
- Evidence. Screenshots, Search Console data and example URLs for each finding.
- Fix specs your developers can use. Exact changes, with code where it helps.
- A way to verify. How to confirm each fix worked after it ships.

Red flags in audit pricing
- A 100-page PDF with no priorities. Volume is not value. You need to know what to fix first.
- Scores instead of causes. A health score of 62 does not tell your developer what to change.
- Ranking promises. No audit can guarantee rankings. It can find what is holding them back.
- A free audit that is really a sales pitch. Free reviews are useful when they name specific problems on your site. Generic findings are a brochure.
- No mention of rendering. On a modern site, an audit that never compares raw and rendered HTML is missing a whole class of problems.

How we price technical work
Every technical engagement starts with a free review call. We look at your site, Search Console and goals, then quote a fixed price for the audit, the fixes, or both. You know the cost before any work starts, and there are no long contracts.
If your site mostly needs ongoing content, local and link work rather than engineering, we will tell you so, because a technical audit would be the wrong purchase.
Questions, answered straight
How much does an SEO audit cost?
It depends on scope. An automated report costs little or nothing, a checklist review takes hours of expert time, and a full technical audit of a larger or JavaScript-heavy site takes days. Site size, platform, depth and whether fixes are included move the price most.
What should an SEO audit include?
A ranked fix list, the cause of each issue, evidence such as example URLs and Search Console data, fix specifications your developers can use, and a way to verify each fix after it ships.
Is a free SEO audit worth it?
A free review is worth it when it names specific problems on your own site. If the findings would apply to any website, it is a sales brochure rather than an audit.
Do you include fixes in the audit price?
You can choose. We quote the audit alone, the fixes alone, or both together, as fixed prices agreed before work starts.
How long does a technical SEO audit take?
A checklist review takes hours. A full technical audit typically takes several days, longer for very large or JavaScript-heavy sites. We give you a delivery date with the quote.
