Local pack SEO

Local pack SEO, from the engineering side.

The Map Pack looks simple: three businesses and a map. Underneath it sits a data problem. Consistent entities, structured data, reviews and proximity signals decide who shows up.

Local pack SEO is the work of earning one of the three map listings Google shows for local searches. It depends on relevance, distance and prominence, which in practice means a complete Google Business Profile, consistent business data across the web, LocalBusiness schema, reviews and locally relevant pages.

This page covers the data and code side of local search: how Google reads your business details, how location pages should be built, and how structured data ties them together. It is the plumbing under a Google Maps campaign.

How Google chooses the local pack

Google says local results are based mainly on three things: relevance, distance and prominence. You cannot move your address, so the engineering work focuses on the other two.

  • Relevance comes from clear data: the right Business Profile categories, services that match your site, and pages that say plainly what you do and where.
  • Prominence comes from what the web says about you: reviews, mentions, links and consistent business details across directories.

Most local SEO problems we see are data problems. Two different phone numbers across the web, a site that lists services the Business Profile does not, location pages that are copies with the city name swapped. Each one weakens the signal Google is trying to read. Google explains the factors in its own local ranking guidance.

Where this connects

For a fully managed Google Maps campaign, Eye To Ad Media runs managed Google Maps campaigns for Denver businesses. Consistent listings matter too, which is why businesses list on USA Business Search.

The technical layer of local SEO

Six jobs that sit between your Business Profile and your website.

LocalBusiness schema

The most specific business type, exact name, address and phone, opening hours, geo coordinates and service area, matching your Business Profile exactly.

Location page architecture

One genuinely useful page per real location or service area, linked from a clear hub, with unique details for each place.

Business data consistency

One canonical name, address and phone everywhere. We find the mismatches across directories and fix the source data.

Business Profile data

Categories, services and attributes aligned with your site, plus tagged website links so you can see which calls and visits Maps sends.

Reviews, handled honestly

A simple way to ask every customer for a review. No gated reviews, and no self-serving review markup, which Google ignores for local businesses.

Call and visit tracking

Measure calls, direction requests and form fills from local search so decisions are based on leads, not guesses.

LocalBusiness schema, done properly

Structured data will not rank a business by itself, but it removes ambiguity. Here is the shape of a clean LocalBusiness block. Every value must match what is visible on the page and on your Business Profile.

{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "Plumber",
  "name": "Example Plumbing Co.",
  "telephone": "+1-303-555-0100",
  "address": {
    "@type": "PostalAddress",
    "streetAddress": "123 Example St",
    "addressLocality": "Denver",
    "addressRegion": "CO",
    "postalCode": "80204"
  },
  "geo": { "@type": "GeoCoordinates", "latitude": 39.73, "longitude": -104.99 },
  "openingHours": "Mo-Fr 07:00-18:00",
  "areaServed": ["Denver", "Lakewood", "Aurora"],
  "url": "https://example.com/"
}

Paste your own markup into the schema markup validator to catch errors before Google does.

Location pages that are not doorway pages

Google treats pages built only to rank for city names, with little unique value, as doorway pages. A location page earns its place when it would still be useful to someone who lives there:

  • Real details for that place: address or service boundaries, local photos, team members, hours.
  • Work you have done nearby, described specifically.
  • Answers to questions people in that area actually ask.
  • Clear links to the services offered there, and back to the main location hub.

If you serve one metro area from one office, you may need one excellent page rather than twenty thin ones.

FAQ

Questions, answered straight

What is local pack SEO?

Local pack SEO is the work of earning one of the three map listings Google shows for local searches. It depends on relevance, distance and prominence: a complete Business Profile, consistent business data, LocalBusiness schema, reviews and useful local pages.

Does schema markup help local rankings?

Structured data does not rank a business by itself, but it removes ambiguity about who you are, where you are and what you do. It must match your visible page and Business Profile exactly.

How many location pages should I have?

One for each real location or service area where you can say something genuinely useful. Thin pages that only swap the city name can be treated as doorway pages.

Why do inconsistent business details matter?

When your name, address or phone differ across the web, search engines have less confidence that the listings describe the same business. Fixing the source data removes that doubt.

Can you track calls from Google Maps?

Yes. Tagged website links on your Business Profile and call tracking let you see which calls, direction requests and form fills come from local search.
