The most common Shopify SEO problems are duplicate product URLs through collection paths, indexed filter and sort pages, heavy app scripts, copied manufacturer descriptions, thin collection pages, incomplete Product and Offer structured data, and slow interaction response. Each can be fixed with theme code changes, app cleanup and better content.
Shopify handles hosting, security and checkout so you can focus on selling. What it does not do is protect your store from itself. These are the problems we find in almost every store audit.
1. Duplicate product URLs
A product can be reachable at /products/item and at /collections/name/products/item. Link to the canonical product URL from your collection templates so authority is not split.
2. Filter and sort bloat
Every filter combination can create a new URL. Keep them out of the index unless a filtered view deserves to rank on its own.
3. App weight
Every app can add scripts to every page. Audit them, remove the unused ones and replace the heaviest. This often fixes slow Interaction to Next Paint too.
4. Copied descriptions
If you use the manufacturer's copy, you share it with every other store. Unique descriptions with real details win.
5. Thin collections
Collection pages are often your best ranking opportunity. Give them a helpful intro, clear structure and internal links.
6. Schema gaps
AI shopping assistants lean on structured data. Make sure Product, Offer, price, availability, shipping and returns are accurate.
7. Theme bloat
Premium themes load features you may never use. A lean theme or targeted cleanup can make a big difference on phones.
We fix these for a living. See our Shopify SEO services.
